I was sitting at a bar with some friends last night when the bartender handed me a sleek black business card that read: “Eventually, you’d ask for this”
The card was sent by three Femmes with a capital F, holding up three Vodka Hpnotiq’s up to me… but even with all the drink I’d had, I realized I could not have been so lucky that all three wanted me, so which one was it?
Phone to the rescue, I browsed to the site inserted the card’s code and … found the profile. Mes amis, I am a gentleman and won’t tell you about the rest of the evening, other than to say everybody was quite pleased.
Curiosity got the better of me today and I started looking up Cheek’d the website that makes these cards and it turns out it has had quite a bit of press (New York Times, The Observer, etc..) and is the in thing amongst New York socialites.
Hmmm well the demoiselle from last night, did not need the card, a look and a smile would have sent any hot blooded male running around the bar to offer her a drink, but it was fun and refreshing to see her make such a blunt first move.
Not quite like the traditional online dating sites where you flip through catalogues to choose whom to communicate with, this is real life people who have seen you in the flesh and choose to “cheek you” (give you a card) so you can connect offline but engage online without having to give private information.
Imagine putting your hand in your pocket and suddenly feeling a card that was not there 5 minutes earlier, who is your mysterious admirer? This can be quite an enticing game, not to mention a new opportunity for people to shy to chat someone up the “traditional” way.
Cheek’d is by no means the only site doing this, Myflirtingsigns is quite similar, though I suspect avoiding spelling mistakes could improve the website and the users success rates (not to mention the weird hand signs).
So, in case you are wondering, I am thinking of ordering from Cheek’d and considering going with “our fate is in your hands” but I am open to suggestions…
